This presentation will provide an overview of key changes in Federal Education law, policy, and funding since January of 2025, additional changes that are being considered, and the impact of the changes already proposed and implemented. Objectives will be to identify strategies that can be used to mitigate the impact of these changes, and to communicate concerns about these changes to the Congress and the Executive Branch.
Matt Cohen is the founder of the law firm, Matt Cohen and Associates, and is well know for his work in special education law. He is the primary or collaborating author of several amendments to the mental health and special education laws of Illinois and has worked on the IDEA legislation at the federal level. He has served as the President of CHADD and has authored the book, A Guide to Special Education Advocacy: What Parents, Clinicians, and Advocates Need to Know. From 2017 to the present, he has served as one of the Legal Representatives of the Chicago Public Schools Special Education Advocacy Group. He may be reached at matt@mattcohenandassociates.com.
